Biography

Andrew Macnab is a Professor in the faculty of medicine at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada and a Fellow of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Highly respected as a clinician, he is also an award-winning researcher with a reputation for innovation and excellence. A world authority on health promotion using the WHO ‘Health Promoting Schools’ approach he has pioneered school-based programs in sub-Saharan Africa that effectively engage youth and have been shown to improve the health of children. Sexual and gender related violence against girls and women is a particular challenge on the African continent. Many of his initiatives include novel approaches to engage adolescents and raise awareness in society, and are recognized to be applicable globally. He is also a world leader on the application of leading-edge technology to improve health care delivery.
