Biography

Veerle Vuylsteke graduated in 1990 as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the Higher Institute of Nursing in Kortrijk, Belgium.

From 1990 to 2005, she worked in the Intensive Care Unit at OCMW Antwerp and at Sint-Jozef Hospital in Zoersel. Between 2002 and 2004, she completed a Nursing Management Training Program, further strengthening her leadership and organizational skills.

In 2004, Veerle joined the Cardiology Department at ZNA Middelheim in Antwerp, where she was appointed Head Nurse in 2009, a position she held with dedication until 2018.

In 2018, she transitioned to the Urology and Hysteroscopy Outpatient Clinic, where, under the mentorship of Dr. Bart De Vree, she developed a specialized expertise as a hysteroscopy nurse. She played a key role in enhancing the quality of care by introducing initiatives such as improving patient communication (developing patient brochures and pre-procedure phone calls) and optimizing pain management (through patient surveys and structured follow-up).

Her growing expertise brought her into contact with the International Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy (ISGE), where she delivered her first presentation in 2020. Driven by her commitment to continuous learning, she also became a member of the British Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy (BSGE), attended international conferences with BSGE, ETCA, and ISGE, and deepened her knowledge through ongoing research in hysteroscopy.

In November 2020, Veerle joined the ISGE Secretariat as a staff member and membership coordinator. In 2023, together with Caroline Bell, she co-founded the ISGE Nurses and Midwives Group, where she serves in a leading role. Their mission is to connect nurses and midwives worldwide, raise awareness of their vital role in patient care, and foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange.

In 2025, the first international congress for nurses and midwives under the auspices of ISGE was successfully held in Zanzibar. Veerle is currently contributing to the development of the ISGE Nurses and Midwives website and to the establishment of international nursing research projects, with the aim of advancing and sharing knowledge globally.

Veerle has delivered numerous presentations on topics including:

  • establishing a hysteroscopy unit,
  • pain management and patient communication,
  • handling and maintaining instruments,
  • and comparing international practices in hysteroscopy nursing.

Through her work, Veerle Vuylsteke is committed to expanding knowledge, sharing expertise, and motivating nurses worldwide to play an active role in advancing hysteroscopy and gynecologic nursing care.
